Quarantine Day 106 – Rabbits!

Hi!!!

I am extremely excited because we are getting RABBITS!!! I have never had a pet before so I am really looking forward to it! We are getting two baby rabbits (kittens) at 8 weeks old. They are brother and sister and we have named them Quaffle and Snitch. (Harry Potter reference.) Quaffle is a golden and black rabbit (though she looks brown) and is a girl, while Snitch is a orange boy.

They are a cross between a lion-head and a mini lop (I think they’re called lion-lops???). That means they will be small and fluffy with floppy ears! They are currently 4 weeks old and we are receiving regular updates, from photos to videos! In fact here is an ADORABLE photo of the cute pair!

Also because they are SO CUTE, here are Quaffle and Snitch seperately!

THEY ARE SO CUTE!

Since I have never had a pet before, I have done a LOT of research into rabbit care! So if you are new like me to the wonderful world of rabbits, here are some tips!

  1. Try not to go straight to the pet store when buying supplies. This may sound weird, as surely that’s where you go? But often you will be lucky to find just one isle on rabbits, as they mainly seem to cater for cats and dogs. Normally they will dump the rabbit care items in the same section as the mice, rats, hamsters and guinea pigs. But really they are NOTHING to do with any of those animals and are completely different! Try going to a specialist rabbit store or visiting a website that caters specially for rabbits!
  2. A rabbit’s diet should actually consist of 80% hay, and only 5% pellets, so make sure you don’t overfeed the pellets as this can make the rabbits fat.
  3. Rabbits need unlimited water, so make sure to refill your rabbit’s water whenever necessary.
  4. Try not to get a water bottle to attach to the wall, as this causes the rabbit to tilt it’s head to an odd angle that can cause neck pain. This can also cause the rabbit to not get enough water. Also bacteria can build up in the bottle and nozzle. So it is best to get a water dish.

That is all for today! Comment your favourite pet! Bye!

  1. You do realise that Dad has agreed to two rabbits so he doesn’t have to mow the lawn! You will have to move the cage about when they are grazing! Well done for all the research, so you keep them well and happy. Favourite pet/pets has to be Rosie and Lola. They are adorable as are your two ‘kittens’ xx
